Maharashtra CET Cell Warns Colleges Against Illegal Fee Demands

The Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell has taken a decisive step by warning engineering colleges in the state against collecting fees that exceed the amounts sanctioned by the Fee Regulating Authority (FRA). This warning comes in response to numerous complaints from students, parents, and public representatives about alleged demands for excessive payments during the engineering admission process for the 2026-27 academic year.

The CET Cell emphasized that any institution participating in the admission process is required to strictly follow the fee structure approved by the FRA. Reports from various stakeholders indicated that some colleges were requesting payments that were not part of their officially sanctioned fee schedules. The CET Cell clarified that the FRA is responsible for determining the applicable fees, and colleges do not have the authority to impose any additional charges.

Any college found to be collecting unauthorized fees could be subject to action under relevant legal provisions. Furthermore, the CET Cell has stated that admissions conducted in violation of these rules may be canceled, underscoring that colleges cannot impose irregular practices or additional fees as a condition for student admission.
