Maharashtra's Eknath Shinde Receives Global Pride Award in London

Maharashtra's Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde was honored with the 'Global Pride of Maharashtra Award' during a cultural event hosted by the Maharashtra Mandal in London on September 11. The award recognizes contributions to the state and its culture, and Shinde's presence underscored the importance of Maharashtra's global representation.

In his address at the event, Shinde emphasized the need for an International Marathi Literature Festival to be organized in London in the near future. He believes that such an initiative would promote Marathi literature and culture on an international platform, fostering connections among the Marathi-speaking diaspora.

Shinde also took the opportunity to mention his son, Dr. Shrikant Shinde, who is pursuing an MBA at the London School of Economics. He praised his son's commitment to education, drawing parallels to the teachings of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, which advocate for continuous learning and unity among people. This personal anecdote highlighted the importance of education and perseverance.

Earlier in his visit, Shinde paid homage at the residence of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar in London, referring to it as a 'holy spot.' He acknowledged Ambedkar's pivotal role in drafting the Indian Constitution, which has enabled individuals from marginalized backgrounds to achieve significant positions in society. Shinde's remarks reinforced the ongoing relevance of Ambedkar's legacy in contemporary India.

During his three-day official visit to London from September 9 to 11, Shinde also received the Commonwealth Public Leadership Award at the British Parliament. He attributed this recognition to the efforts of the Mahayuti government, highlighting various initiatives aimed at improving the lives of millions in Maharashtra. Looking ahead, Shinde's engagements in London are expected to strengthen ties between Maharashtra and the global community.
