Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the International Space Summit in Paris via video link, advocating for international cooperation in space exploration. He called on nations to join India in its ambitious space endeavors, emphasizing a collective approach to innovation and protection of outer space. Modi stated, "Let the space summit in Paris send a clear message: we will explore together, innovate together, and protect space together, for all humanity, and for generations to come."
In his speech, Modi highlighted the increasing congestion in space and the need for sustainable practices. He stressed that with more countries and technologies involved in the space sector, the focus should shift towards collaboration rather than competition. He reiterated India's commitment to a safe and sustainable space environment, grounded in international law and multilateral dialogue.
The Prime Minister showcased the achievements of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), noting its cost-effective missions that benefit various sectors, including agriculture and disaster management. He pointed out that over 430 satellites from 34 nations have been launched using Indian rockets, underscoring ISRO's global contributions. Modi also mentioned upcoming missions like Chandrayaan-3 and Aditya-L1, along with plans for an Indian astronaut to visit the International Space Station in 2025.
The summit also witnessed significant agreements between Indian and French companies. RIDE!, a Paris-based launch service, signed a deal to launch satellites for TakeMeToSpace, an Indian firm focused on orbital data centers. Additionally, French company Safran Space entered contracts worth over €5 million with Hyderabad's Dhruva Space for critical technologies aimed at India's future space surveillance initiatives.
Looking forward, Modi outlined ambitious goals for India's space program, including the establishment of an Indian space station by 2035 and a lunar mission by 2040. He emphasized that these advancements should benefit all of humanity, highlighting the growing role of India's private space sector alongside ISRO's efforts.
