Latur is set to become a significant manufacturing hub with Kinet Railway Solutions advancing the Vande Bharat Sleeper project. This Indo-Russian joint venture is working on two prototype trainsets at its expansive 351-acre facility, with plans to manufacture 120 sleeper trainsets under a $6.5 billion contract awarded in March 2023.
The project aims to enhance India's railway manufacturing capabilities and create a new industrial ecosystem in Marathwada. With a focus on technology transfer and local sourcing, the initiative is expected to strengthen the domestic supply chain and generate employment opportunities for local graduates and engineers, contributing to the region's economic development.
