IIM Nagpur Partners with Goa for Traffic Management Solutions
IIM Nagpur collaborates with the Goa government to enhance traffic management through innovative simulation models.

This marks IIM Nagpur's third collaboration in traffic and crowd management.
On September 10, the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Nagpur announced a significant partnership with the Goa government aimed at improving traffic management in the state. The agreement, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Goa's Public Works Department (PWD), focuses on creating traffic-simulation and pedestrian-evacuation models for urban areas including Panaji, Margao, and Sanquelim.
The initiative, which is set to unfold over the next 12 months, will see IIM Nagpur's Centre for Logistics, Infrastructure and Project Management (CLIP) develop a comprehensive Traffic Simulation Model and a Pedestrian Evacuation Model. These models will specifically address the road networks around KTC Circle, Divja Circle, and Merces Circle in Panaji, in addition to key locations in Margao and Sanquelim.
This collaboration positions Goa as the third state to engage with IIM Nagpur's CLIP for traffic and crowd management solutions. Previously, the institute has entered into agreements with the Maharashtra government for crowd-management strategies related to the Kumbh Mela scheduled for Nashik and Trimbakeshwar in 2027, as well as with Madhya Pradesh for the Ujjain Kumbh Mela in 2028.
IIM Nagpur's Director, Dr. Bhimaraya Metri, emphasized the importance of management institutions extending their impact beyond academic settings. He stated, "The Goa partnership marks an important milestone for IIM Nagpur. By combining field data, simulation technology, and management thinking, we aim to support Goa with practical solutions for safer roads, shorter travel times, and infrastructure that remains effective for decades to come."
Looking ahead, the project is expected to not only enhance traffic flow and safety in Goa but also serve as a model for future collaborations in urban management across India. Stakeholders anticipate that the findings and solutions developed through this initiative will be instrumental in addressing ongoing traffic challenges in the region.
