Team India Physio Kamlesh Jain Resigns Amid Series

Kamlesh Jain, the physiotherapist for Team India, has officially resigned from his position. Currently with the Indian squad in New Delhi for the upcoming three-match T20 series against Afghanistan starting September 13, Jain has submitted his resignation papers to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The board has yet to formally accept his resignation.

Jain, who joined the Indian team in June 2022, is now in the midst of a three-month notice period, which means that unless the BCCI decides to relieve him sooner, the series in New Zealand, concluding in early December, may mark his final assignment with the team. His resignation comes amid a backdrop of significant changes within the team’s support staff.

The Chennai-based physiotherapist took over the role from Nitin Patel, who transitioned to the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. Patel has since left that position to join the Mumbai Indians. Sources indicate that Jain's decision to resign stems from the extensive travel commitments associated with the role, particularly as he wishes to spend more time with his young family. The BCCI has not yet provided any comments regarding his resignation.

Jain was appointed by the BCCI during Rahul Dravid's coaching tenure when he was with the Kolkata Knight Riders. Having served the Indian team for approximately four and a half years, Jain has expressed enjoyment in his role but is now prioritizing family over travel. His resignation is part of a broader trend of staff changes, as T Dilip, the long-serving fielding coach, also departed following the recent UK tour, and Ryan ten Doeschate, an assistant coach, has moved on to rejoin the Kolkata Knight Riders.

Looking ahead, Jain's future remains uncertain as he awaits the BCCI's response to his resignation. The Indian team will need to address the gap left by his departure, especially with upcoming international fixtures on the horizon.
