In a remarkable achievement, Shree Charani has made history by becoming the fastest Indian bowler to secure 50 wickets in women's T20 internationals. The 22-year-old accomplished this feat during a match against Bangladesh in the Women's Asia Cup semifinal, held at the Dubai International Stadium. Charani reached the milestone in her 29th T20I match, placing her alongside notable bowlers like New Zealand's Leigh Kasperek and West Indies' Anisa Mohammed, who also took 29 matches to reach the same number of wickets.
Charani's accomplishment is particularly impressive given her age. At 22 years and 37 days, she is now the second-youngest Indian to reach 50 wickets in women's T20Is, following Radha Yadav, who achieved the milestone at 20 years and 334 days. Among players from full-member nations, England's Sophie Ecclestone holds the record for the youngest to reach this mark at 20 years and 300 days. Charani's achievement places her fourth on the list of the youngest players to reach 50 wickets in women's T20Is.
The significant wicket that marked Charani's 50th came in the sixth over of the match against Bangladesh, where she dismissed Juairiya Ferdous, caught by wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh.
