Kohima District Reviews Health Initiatives in Recent Meetings

On September 9, Kohima hosted significant meetings of the District Task Force for Immunization (DTFI) and the District Level TB Mukt Bharat Committee. These gatherings aimed to assess the progress in immunization, child health, HIV/AIDS awareness, and tuberculosis control, while also enhancing collaboration among various departments and community stakeholders.
The DTFI meeting, chaired by Deputy Commissioner B Henok Buchem, featured updates from Dr. Khrievilhou Nakhro, the District Programme Officer for RMCAH+N. He acknowledged the crucial role played by teachers and Anganwadi workers in facilitating immunization efforts and reported on awareness programs conducted in schools, emphasizing parental consent for vaccinations.
Discussions also included a partnership with the National Cadet Corps (NCC), which sought assistance from relevant departments to support immunization activities during NCC camps. An overview of the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) was presented, highlighting its focus areas and implementation strategies. Deputy Commissioner Buchem instructed the RBSK team to coordinate with the District Education Officer for effective program execution in schools.
Dr. Avonu Sophie presented concerning data on child mortality, detailing two cases linked to congenital heart disease and septicaemia. This presentation allowed for a critical examination of the clinical factors involved in these cases. Additionally, Sentimongla Tsudir provided insights into HIV/AIDS awareness initiatives, noting that 21 villages and 70 schools in Kohima have been earmarked for awareness activities under the Intensified IEC Campaign 2026.
The District Level TB Mukt Bharat Committee also reviewed ongoing efforts to eliminate tuberculosis in Kohima. Dr. Chibenthung Kithan, the District TB Officer, shared that guidelines for TB elimination were established during the Pragati meeting. He mentioned the appointment of a Block Development Officer in each block to coordinate TB activities and proposed forming volunteer teams in collaboration with NCC. The committee discussed the establishment of a joint account for TB Mukt Bharat, requiring the Deputy Commissioner's approval for its operation. Currently, 342 TB patients are registered in Kohima, with approximately 100 receiving donor support. AI-enabled X-ray machines have been introduced to enhance TB detection, although the lack of trained technicians poses a challenge in their effective use.
